MULTI-FACILITY ECONOMIC ZONE (MFEZ)

The Multi- Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) is a Government programme. Introduced to Zambia in 2005 by the Japanese Government through Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA).
The MFEZs blend the best features of the free trade zones (FTZs), export-processing zones (EPZs) and the industrial parks/zones concept and create the administrative infrastructure and regulations that will create the ideal investment environment for attracting major world class investors.
The legislation governing the MFEZs, is mainstreamed in the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Act No. 11 of 2006 under section 18.
The Ministry has to date declared six (6) areas as MFEZs and /or Industrial Parks vis-à-vis:

  • Chambishi (1158 Ha): The number of companies operating in the zone is 38 with an amount of investment of USD 1.4 billion.
  • Lusaka East (520 Ha): The number of companies operating in the zone is 10 with an amount of investment of USD 19 million
  • Lusaka South (2100 Ha): The number of companies operating in the zone is 11 with an amount of investment of USD 120 million;
  • Lumwana (1300 Km2)
  • Ndola (Sub Saharan gemstones exchange) (130 Ha): The number of companies operating in the zone is 6 with an amount of investment of USD 15 million;
  • Roma as an Industrial Parks (113 Ha)
